What is S.A.M.E.?
Specific Area Message Encoding....allows unnecessary information, that does not concern your locality, to be weeded out from its' broadcasting. You will only hear alerts that pertain to the 6 counties nearest to the area your radio code is programmed for. What does NOAA stand for?
National Oceanic Atmospheric Association....www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr....along with the Dept. Of Commerce, is solely responsible for dispersing critical information throughout the United States. It distributes data on weather and coastal water changes and safety.
Can I just listen to the TV to get my alerts.
Unfortunately, we can't take the TV everywhere we go and it's not programmed to come on in the middle of the night while we're sleeping to alert us of severe weather changes. Your weather radio will sound alerts no matter where you are with continued announcements 24/7. Your TV will give you frequent weather warning information and then resume to regular programming.
Will my weather radio play when i'm out fishing on the water.
Weather radios are portable with battery usage and will continue to give you fast, accurate and dependable reports for your designated recreation area. If you're traveling outside of your state , locate the program for that area to receive announcements 24/7.
How important is a weather radio, really?.
Lets' take a look at warning signals. Your home alarm warns you if there's a fire, burglar alarm warns you of an intruder and weather radios warn you to take action and move your family to a safe area because a force of nature is heading in that direction and could leave behind a path of destruction.
How do I program a weather radio.
You will find easy to read instructions inside your box. It will only take a few minutes to get your radio set for the area you reside in.
Will I lose my radio signal during a storm?
Weather radios are not known to lose signals. When the power goes out in your home, your weather radio will continue with non-stop reporting. If your weather radio is plugged into an electrical socket, make sure that batteries are placed in the unit as a back-up.
We don't get many storms. Do I need a weather radio?
Residents that don't get many storms are fortunate. National Weather events have been reported daily from every location throughout the United States. Our climate is changing with seasonal variations. June is the beginning of hurricane season and we will watch strong, unstoppable winds rotate across our globe. We will never know the directing of its' intent, without a weather radio to guide us, if it comes our way.
